The Fine Arts Center (FAC) is thrilled to highlight three students who have been honored with the prestigious YoungArts Award with Distinction. YoungArts is a nationally recognized organization that identifies exceptional young artists, amplifies their potential, and invests in their lifelong creative freedom.

The recipients of the YoungArts Award with Distinction from the FAC are:

  • Sun Clark – Writing/Spoken Word

  • Brady Green – Musical Theatre

  • Leah Rutherford – Voice/Jazz

The YoungArts Award with Distinction not only acknowledges the remarkable skills of these students but also offers them the opportunity to participate in National YoungArts Week, which was held in January. During this weeklong intensive in Miami, the artists participated in classes and interdisciplinary workshops with acclaimed artists. They also underwent further evaluation for cash awards of up to $10,000. The FAC students earned the following awards:

  • Sun Clark and Brady Green – $5,000

  • Leah Rutherford – $10,000

In addition to being bestowed a YoungArts Award with Distinction, Leah Rutherford was also nominated for a Presidential Scholarship, one of the nation’s highest honors for high school students in the arts.

Vee Popat, Director of the FAC, expressed his pride in the achievements of these outstanding students, saying, “The YoungArts Award with Distinction represents a very competitive accolade, showcasing the exceptional abilities of our students. It underscores the dedication and effort, teachability, and creativity exhibited by these remarkable students, complemented by the mentorship provided by the FAC and the unwavering support from Greenville County Schools.”
