Famed author Josh McDowell to speak at Christian Learning Centers’ 20th Anniversary Friends and Fundraising Banquet

April 13, 2017

Christian author Josh McDowell has addressed more than 25 million people, giving over 27,000 talks in 125 countries – and now he is coming to Greenville.

McDowell will be the guest speaker at the Christian Learning Centers of Greenville County’s 20th Anniversary Friends and Fundraising Banquet on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., said Janice Butler, the organization’s Executive Director. Ticket can be purchased at clcogreenville.org.

“The Christian Learning Centers organization is celebrating 20 years in Greenville, and we decided to bring in a speaker who can share an amazing and compelling message with our friends and partners,” Butler said. “This event is aimed at mobilizing Christian believers to work more urgently to provide biblical teachings for public school students in every middle and high school in the county by 2020.”

Christian Learning Centers provides biblical instruction to school-age children as an opportunity to encourage them to embrace the Gospel of Jesus Christ, grow in the Christian faith, and apply biblical principles for living, Butler said. The program serves more than 1,800 students in 15 middle schools and two high schools in Greenville.

With the support of approximately 40 churches, 274 volunteers, and a small staff, Christian Learning Centers provides Released-Time Christian Education, which is a time during the school day when students are released from school (with parent permission) to study Bible at an off-school campus location, Butler said.

“We provide this service to allow young people to learn how to live the best life by embracing the Christian faith and applying biblical teachings,” she said. “We want the greater Greenville community to know more about what we do and how they can be involved in the effort. We believe Josh McDowell will help share this message and help the audience to understand the urgency of reaching out to our young people.”

Since 1960, McDowell has written or co-authored 147 books in more than 100 languages. His two most-well-known books are: More Than a Carpenter, with more than 27 million copies distributed and New Evidence That Demands a Verdict — named one the Twentieth Century’s top 40 books and one of the 13 most-influential books of the last 50 years on Christian thought by World Magazine.

In addition to many other awards, Josh has been nominated 36 times for the Gold Medallion Award, which recognizes the highest quality in Christian books, and has received that award on four occasions.

“We want the Greenville community to come and hear our story and Josh’s,” Butler said. “More importantly, we want our neighbors to hear how our stories are sure to affect their story and our county’s legacy as a whole.”
