December 18, 2012

COLUMBIA, SC – December 18, 2012 – Family Connection of South Carolina, a statewide nonprofit organization that supports families who have children with special healthcare needs, announced that Adriana Shacklock has been named Hispanic outreach coordinator.

Shacklock, a native of Colombia, South America, is responsible for implementing and coordinating program activities for Spanish-speaking families with children with special healthcare needs. She will seek partnerships within the Hispanic community, recruit parent volunteers and conduct linguistic and culturally sensitive Support Parent trainings to further expand a Spanish-speaking program.

“Adriana has a precious daughter who has taught her a lot about the world of disabilities,” said Jackie Richards, Family Connection’s executive director. “She has advocated on behalf of her daughter, which has resulted in very positive outcomes for her child.  She is ready to take what she has learned from her personal journey and use that experience to empower other Hispanic families who are caring for children with special healthcare needs or disabilities,” she said.

Shacklock served as the human resources coordinator for Distraves in Colombia, South America, from 2007 to 2008. From 2006 to 2007, she worked for Avidesa as a selection analyst where she performed psychological assessments for newly hired employees. Shacklock earned a bachelor’s in psychology from Universidad Autónoma de Bucaramanga in 2006.
