Family Connection hosts ‘Hopes & Dreams’ conference for parents and professionals who care for children with special needs

COLUMBIA, SC – January 21, 2013 – Family Connection of South Carolina  will host its 19th annual ‘Hopes & Dreams’ conference for parents of children with special needs and professionals who care for them March 8-9 at First Baptist Church in Columbia, S.C.

Family Connection is a statewide nonprofit organization that provides resources, support and education to families who have children with special healthcare needs.

The conference will feature 64 speakers and workshops that explore the issues and challenges families face in caring for children of all ages with developmental disabilities, chronic illnesses and long-term health needs. “The ‘Hopes & Dreams’ conference is the only one of its kind in South Carolina,” said Executive Director Jackie Richards. “Workshop sessions are not just led by disability professionals. They are co-led with parents who have personal experience with each of the topics.  This partnership offers a unique learning experience for participants where parents and professionals learn from each other,” she said.

Family Connection will provide childcare for up to 30 children with special needs on each day of the conference. To pre-register your child, call (800) 578-8750. Childcare registrations will not be accepted at the conference.  

The conference is open to parents, community agency/organization personnel, early interventionists, social workers, licensed professional counselors, nurses, physicians, occupational therapists, physical therapists, teachers, students and other interested healthcare and service providers. Continuing Education Credits are available for nurses, social workers, speech pathologists, teachers, early interventionists and child care workers.

Family Connection of South Carolina (Family Connection) is a nonprofit organization that provides support, information and resources to families and professionals who care for children with special healthcare needs.
