Family Shelter Welcomes Rebecca Jacobson as New Executive Director

September 7, 2012

COLUMBIA, SC – September 5, 2013 – The Family Shelter of Columbia welcomes Rebecca Jacobson, MPH as their new Executive Director. Rebecca has worked in nonprofit programming and business administration for over 20 years, most recently as Membership and Development Director for the Congaree Land Trust.

Rebecca received her Master of Public Health degree from the University of South Carolina School of Public Health and brings not only her nonprofit experience to Family Shelter, but also a strong skill set in marketing and communications.

“We chose Rebecca because she is an ‘outside of the box’ thinker with strong operational knowledge and skills,” says Julian Dew, Board Chairman. “With such a small staff, expanding the types of services we offer homeless families requires innovative approaches and creative thinking.  We felt that Rebecca was just the right person to move us forward in this way.”

About Family Shelter

Established in 1979, Family Shelter is the only agency in the Midlands that provides emergency shelter services to homeless children and their families. They offer the opportunity for homeless families to stay together in a safe and secure environment, with 3 meals/day and social services that support residents in their search for independent housing and employment opportunities. Homeless families can live at the shelter for up to 4 months depending on their needs and willingness to follow program structure. Family Shelter relies heavily on volunteers for many facets of their program.  To learn more, visit http://www.columbiafamilyshelter.org, like their page on Facebook or call 803-771-7040.
