December 9, 2014

COLUMBIA, SC – Gov. Nikki Haley today announced that Ray Farmer will continue serving as the director of the South Carolina Department of Insurance during the second term. Appointed to the position by the governor in November of 2012 and confirmed by the Senate in February of 2013, Director Farmer has focused on improving the agency’s customer service and creating a business-friendly environment where South Carolina companies can succeed.

“Director Farmer’s leadership and professionalism have been huge assets at the Department of Insurance and I am very excited to continue our partnership during this second term,” said Gov. Haley. “His commitment to making the agency as consumer-friendly as possible, while ensuring South Carolina remained one of the most business-friendly states in the country, has done great things for our citizens and I know he is the right person to build on this progress going forward.”

Under Director Farmer, the Department of Insurance has improved service to all of their customers, including consumers, producers, and insurance companies. By extending operating hours for frontline staff and improving the agency’s website, he has worked to ensure that people across the state are able to find the help they need, when they need it.

With more than 250 captives licensed, South Carolina has been one of the nation’s premier places for captive insurance companies to do business for many years. Director Farmer has placed a renewed focus on the Captives Division within the agency, resulting in over 20 companies being licensed during his tenure.

“I thank Governor Haley for the confidence and trust she has placed in me and consider being a public servant not a job but an honor,” said Director Ray Farmer. “We have done a lot over the past two years to improve our services to our customers and quality customer service will continue to be one of our primary focuses. I am honored to have the opportunity to continue to serve Governor Haley and the people of South Carolina.”
