Feed & Seed receives $70,000 grant from Greenville Women Giving to expand food processing capacity
May 21, 2026Greenville Women Giving awarded Feed & Seed a $70,000 grant to purchase large-scale food processing equipment that will significantly increase its production capacity.
Feed & Seed is a nonprofit organization on a mission to make fresh, healthy food accessible and affordable for all South Carolinians while building a strong, sustainable local food system. Through partnerships with South Carolina farmers and Greenville County Schools, Feed & Seed’s Farm to School program transforms local produce into nutritious, value-added foods for cafeterias, ensuring students have access to fresh, locally sourced foods at school.
Since September, Feed & Seed has processed more than 70,000 pounds of South Carolina-grown collards, sweet potatoes, and strawberries that are now being served in Greenville County Schools. This generous grant from Greenville Women Giving will fund freeze drying and food processing equipment that will scale those efforts significantly, increasing Feed & Seed’s efficiency and ability to serve the community.
“This investment from Greenville Women Giving is transformational for Feed & Seed, local farmers, and the local food system we are working to build,” said Mary Hipp, Feed & Seed Board Chair. “With this equipment, we can dramatically increase the amount of fresh South Carolina-grown produce we process and distribute to schools and families across the region.”
Greenville Women Giving, a local philanthropic women’s collective giving organization, awards grants funded by member donations in five focus areas each year: arts, education, environment, health, and human services. This year’s grant recipients were announced during GWG’s 20th Anniversary Annual Meeting on May 19.
