FEMA announces additional $6 million for South Carolina recovery
June 18, 2026FEMA approved more than $6 million in funding to support 11 recovery projects in South Carolina communities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, Hurricane Helene, Tropical Storm Debby and other disasters.
Notable recovery projects FEMA funded include:
- $1.4 million to Laurens Electric Cooperative, Inc., for emergency protective measures taken following Helene.
- $1.3 million to Lexington County Health Services District, Inc. for emergency protective measures taken during COVID.
- $1.1 million to the Medical University Hospital Authority for emergency protective measures taken during COVID.
- $1 million to the South Carolina Department of Transportation for emergency protective measures taken following Debby.
- $1 million to the city of Anderson for debris removal and culvert repairs following Helene.
- $360,972 to Orangeburg County following January 2025 severe storms and flooding.
FEMA is reimbursing these recovery costs at no less than a 75% federal cost share through its Public Assistance program, which provides funds for state and local governments’ response and recovery work.
