Final year for Home Run For Healthy Kids®

October 9, 2019

The Junior League of Greenville’s Signature Community Event to Run October 24-25

The Junior League of Greenville, Inc., (JLG) announces the final year of Home Run for Healthy Kids ® (HRHK), its signature community event for October 24 through 25 at Flour Field. HRHK promotes healthy lifestyles as a free, education field trip for Greenville County school children.

Over the past year, the JLG realigned its focus areas, engaging with initiatives that help women in the Upstate community overcome barriers, including economic mobility and human trafficking. Key JLG leadership team members chose to end HRHK in conjunction with this shift. Further information can be found in a video announcement from Sarah Lynne Howie, JLG President.

A select group of JLG members will research a new signature community project, spending the year to make a recommendation to the board and membership about whatever can best help the impact on our community.

About Home Run for Healthy Kids

HRHK is planned each summer when JLG solidifies partnerships with 15 or more community agencies and businesses to serve as station partners at the event. Each station provides a fun, interactive activity or presentation that engages all the students. The HRHK committee coordinates, organizes and directs the entire event with assistant from over 100 JLG volunteers during the event.

The JLG invested almost $215,000 over the past decade, aiming to improve the community by teaching children to adopt healthier lifestyles. This is due in large part to two long-term sponsors, presenting sponsor, Prisma Health Children’s Hospital, and The Greenville Drive as the venue sponsor. Over 24,000 Greenville County school children have participated in this free, educational field trip at Fluor Field since its start in 2008.
