Fireflies organize youth baseball skills camps

June 2, 2016

COLUMBIA, SC – The Columbia Fireflies have scheduled two, three-day youth baseball skills camps this summer at Spirit Communications Park. The camps are scheduled for mid-July and mid-August.

The first of the two Fireflies skills camps will take place Wednesday, July 13 – Friday, July 15 (Sign-up deadline: Wednesday, July 6). The second camp will be from Wednesday, August 10 – Friday, August 12 (Sign-up deadline: Wednesday, August 3). Both camps will be held from 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. every day and are perfect for boys and girls from 7-12 years old.

The cost for each three-day camp is $100. Members of the Fireflies Kids’ Club can participate in camps for just $80 each. This price includes lunch all three days and a ticket to the Fireflies game on the last day of the respective camp (Friday, July 15 or Friday, August 12). The campers will be recognized on-field before that game and presented with a certificate of completion.

“This is a great way for youngsters to learn from and play ball with the pros,” said Fireflies team President, John Katz. “All of the campers will be learning the fundamentals of hitting, base-running, pitching and defense from the future stars of the New York Mets… And probably some high-five and handshake skills.”

Columbia Fireflies players and coaches will lead the camps and work each day with all the youngsters. The team will also sign autographs on the last day of camp.
