Fireflies release game times and fireworks dates for 2017 schedule

On Monday, the Columbia Fireflies released game times for the 2017 regular season which will begin with a matchup against the Augusta GreenJackets (San Francisco Giants) on Opening Night – Thursday, April 6 at 7:05 p.m.

Opening Night kicks off Columbia’s first seven-game homestand of the year, which features three straight nights of post-game fireworks shows. In total, the Midlands will be dazzled by 27 fireworks displays following all Friday and Saturdaygames and after select Thursday games as well. Additionally, fireworks are scheduled following the Fireflies game on July 3, a night before Independence Day.

“As soon as the final out of the inaugural season was made, we started working towards Opening Night in 2017,” said Fireflies Team President John Katz. “Our team has been working non-stop as we continue to enhance the fan experience, build a promotions schedule that offers something for everyone and make season two at Spirit Communications Park even more memorable than the first.”

All MondaySaturday home games during the 2017 season will begin at 7:05 p.m., except for these seven special start times:

 

Tuesday, April 25                          11:05 a.m.

Wednesday, April 26                     11:05 a.m.

Wednesday, May 3                       11:05 a.m.

Wednesday, May 24                      11:05 a.m.

Monday, May 29 (Memorial Day)     5:05 p.m.

Wednesday, June 7                       12:05 p.m.

Monday, August 21                       1:05 p.m.

Sunday home games will begin at 2:05 p.m. in the first half of the season (April 6-June 18) and at 5:05 p.m. in the second half (June 22-September 4).

The four 11:05 a.m. start times are Fireflies Reading Program games, presented by Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital. The June 7 contest is a special camp day for youngsters and businesspersons’ special for all.

The Fireflies will host the unique Total Eclipse of the Park celebration on August 21 with a special 1:05 p.m. start time. Columbia is the largest city on the eastern seaboard with a view of the eclipse and will provide arguably the best seats in the world to view the event. The total solar eclipse will move through the Palmetto State’s capital at approximately 2:41 p.m. The game will be halted for two minutes and 36 seconds of darkness and all fans in attendance will receive eclipse-viewing glasses.

The Fireflies will also host the 2017 South Atlantic League All-Star Game on Tuesday, June 20, at 7:05 p.m. In addition to the game itself, All-Star week will feature a home run derby and celebrity softball game on Monday, June 19, and the all-star fan fest prior to the game the following day.

“In June, we will be welcoming the future stars of Major League Baseball to Columbia for the All-Star Game,” said Katz. “This is a great opportunity to showcase the best of Columbia and the Midlands region, and to showcase our community’s beautiful ballpark.”

The Fireflies will unveil their full promotional schedule for the 2017 season later this fall.

Individual tickets for Fireflies home games in 2017 are not yet available. A limited number of games will go on sale prior to the holiday shopping season.
