First Citizens Donates $7500 to School – Students Receive 75 New Computers

October 24, 2007

COLUMBIA, SC – October 24, 2007 – The Batesburg and Ridge Spring branches of First Citizens joined together to donate $7500 to Ridge Spring Monetta Elementary/Middle School for the purchase of 75 new computers. First Citizens took initiative to give back to the community and because of this, other businesses followed by donating money as well to fund this initiative.

First Citizens wanted to upgrade the computers for various reasons: for students to learn how to access information on many topics and complete assignments, to create a seamless transition to the workplace or college, to ensure students are computer literate, and to be competitive in the global economy.

We are delighted to provide computers to the school and the students. This is just one way that we can give back to the community we serve. said Tiffany Fallaw, customer service manager of the First Citizens Ridge Spring branch.

Ridge Spring Monetta Elementary/Middle School is located in a rural area without a library. Over 75 percent of students do not own a computer; therefore, they are dependent on the school for all of their computer skills and access to information. With First Citizens’ help, the school can give their students the same opportunities as students in other schools and areas.
