First Lady Jenny Sanford and Superintendent of Ed. Dr. Jim Rex Host Press Conference & Awards Ceremony

COLUMBIA, SC – March 17, 2008 – First Lady Jenny Sanford and State Superintendent of Education Jim Rex will host a joint press conference and awards ceremony for the conclusion of the 2007-08 Healthy SC School Video Contest on Wednesday, March 19th at 10:30 am at the South Carolina Governor’s Mansion (800 Richland Street, Columbia).

Mrs. Sanford and Dr. Rex will present the January, February, and Special Prize winners with the remaining $15,000 of the total $25,000 cash prizes. The schools of these students will also receive prizes.

January/February/Special Prize winners and schools receiving cash and prizes are:

• Emily Leising from Daniel High School in Central

• Noah Smith from Fine Arts Center in Greenville • Jason Smith from Project Challenge in Anderson

• James Fonger and Melton Bristow from Heathwood Hall Episcopal School in Columbia

• Aubria Summons, Emani Livingston, Deandre Griffin, Arnasia James, Savon Johnson, Wesly Tolan, Erin Boyd and Tajuan Huiett from Gibbes Middle School in Columbia

Sponsors include OurStage, BlueCross Blue Shield of SC, Coca Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated, Wal-Mart, Subway, Palmetto Project, DHEC and ETV.

The video contest which ran from November through February challenged middle and high school students to create commercial like videos about the importance of healthy lifestyles. Over 150 videos competed in this online contest which was hosted by OurStage.com on a video channel created solely for this contest.
