First National Bank Gains Deposit Market Share

January 3, 2009

SPARTANBURG, SC – December 30, 2008 – First National Bank announced today that it climbed to third out of 18 banks and thrifts in Spartanburg
County based on its deposit market share from the most recently published Summary of Deposits Report as of June 30, 2008. This ranking is an increase from the 2007 report compiled by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), when the bank was ranked fourth in deposit market share. The FDIC
measures bank deposit market share every year as of June 30th.

According to the report, First National Bank held 12.07% of the Spartanburg County deposit market share with three full-service branches including its corporate headquarters, an increase over last year’s share of 11.35%. As of June 30, 2008, a total of 18 banks and thrifts operated 79 full-service branches in the Spartanburg market with a total of $3.7 billion in deposits, an increase of 8.8% over the previous year’s result of $3.4 billion.

Jerry L. Calvert, First National’s President and CEO, said, “With Spartanburg County’s competitive market and the challenging economic situation banks have faced this year, we are pleased to have gained market share while many of the other larger, regional and national banks showed a decline in market share since last year. Through these times, community banks have shown to be a safe place to put deposits.”

Kent Dill, Senior Vice President and Retail Banking Manager for the bank, commented, “We feel the changes in FDIC insurance – increasing the protection to $250,000 per qualified account – will have a positive impact on community banks by enabling them to gather more deposits. In addition to this
nationwide benefit, First National continues to launch other programs, such as our new marketing brand and free ATMs nationwide, which provide added value for our clients. Our ranking reflects these efforts to grow our client base while maintaining the high level of satisfaction and personal touch our clients have come to expect.”

Calvert continued, “Spartanburg has been our home since we opened the doors for business in 2000 and continues to be so, even as we continue our growth in other markets. With our corporate headquarters and first three offices located here, we have a vested interest in the Spartanburg community and its residents. We appreciate the support we’ve received over the past eight years and are pleased that our performance has made us Spartanburg’s top community bank.”

First National Bank operates three full-service branches in Spartanburg County and two additional Upstate South Carolina locations in Greenville County. The bank has a total of 12 locations statewide, with its thirteenth office expected to open in York County in the spring of 2009.
