Fisher Phillips Columbia attorney named president-elect of South Carolina Women Lawyers Association

February 10, 2017

Fisher Phillips attorney Sheila Bias has been named president-elect of the South Carolina Women Lawyers Association (SCWLA).

Established in 1993, SCWLA’s mission is to enhance the status, influence and effectiveness of women lawyers in South Carolina through advocacy, action and association. The organization has over 900 members and an active 25-member board of directors.

Bias was chosen to lead as president-elect based on her commitment to the organization and its goals. She previously served as secretary and member of the board of directors for SCWLA.

“Sheila has shown a true commitment to helping her female peers achieve their goals and Fisher Phillips is proud to support her,” said Stephen Mitchell, managing partner of the Columbia office. “Her dedication to the Palmetto state and our clients is remarkable and we look forward to watching her grow as a leader.”

Bias, who represents employers in a variety of labor and employment matters, is a member of Fisher Phillips’ pay equity practice group, as well as the firm’s Women’s Initiative and Leadership Council, which strives to advance women within the firm and in the legal community.

In addition to her involvement with SCWLA, Bias is involved in various professional and community activities. She serves on the board of directors for Columbia-Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and serves as the state-wide chair of the South Carolina Bar Young Lawyers’ Division’s Cinderella Project, a group that provides gently-used prom dresses for students who lack the financial resources to buy their own. Additionally, Bias formerly served as a board member for the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys Association (SCDTAA). She is also active in the Richland County Bar Association, American Bar Association, and the Junior League of Columbia.

Bias received her law degree and undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina.
