Five Points grieves the loss of Colonel Jack Van Loan

October 16, 2019

Five Points grieves the loss of Colonel Jack Van Loan USAF retired, a former association president and board member emeritus.  A patriotic and selfless Vietnam POW returnee, Col. Van Loan brought his ‘survive and thrive‘ personal ethos to his role as a civic leader here in Columbia and Five Points in particular. We in the community are all the wealthier for having had a figure of such courage and character to guide us through the last few decades.  The Five Points Association, which owes its credibility to Col. Van Loan’s leadership, mourns for him as we would a family member.

A statue commemorating Col. Van Loan’s service and sacrifice may be found in Centennial Plaza, located at Blossom and Santee in Five Points.
