For 20th consecutive year, Coker ranks among south’s top colleges in U.S. News & World Report

Hartsville, SC – For the 20th consecutive year, U.S. News & World Report has named Coker College one of America’s Best Colleges in its 2016 rankings, which were released earlier this month. Coker ranks as one of the top 20 regional colleges in the South region.

Coker’s high ranking this year was influenced by an overall impressive performance, including increases in its graduation rate, incoming students’ average SAT/ACT scores, and the percentage of classes with fewer than 20 students.

“For the last 20 consecutive years, Coker College has been ranked as a top institution in the South, a distinction that is made possible by the dedication of our students, faculty, staff and alumni,” said Coker College President Robert Wyatt. “We strive to empower our students to create their own stories through education, experience and service. It’s a unique academic and cultural structure that continues to prove successful.”

U.S. News & World Report has been providing education rankings since 1983. The 2016 edition includes data on nearly 1,800 colleges and universities, including statistics on borrowing, costs and graduation rates. The rankings measure the strength of the academic programs at undergraduate institutions, with eligible schools ranked on up to 16 measures of academic excellence.

U.S. News defines a regional college as an institution that focuses on undergraduate education while offering a wide range of degree programs in the liberal arts as well as professional fields, such as business and education. The regional college rankings are split into four regions: North, South, Midwest and West. The South region includes 98 colleges from 12 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
