Former Assistant Attorney General David Paavola joins Lewis Babcock L.L.P. as Associate

Attorney David L. Paavola has joined the law firm of Lewis Babcock in their Columbia, South Carolina office as an associate attorney representing individuals and businesses in the areas of eminent domain, financial services litigation, business disputes, and professional misconduct.
Prior to joining Lewis Babcock, Paavola served as a South Carolina Assistant Attorney General in the Consumer Protection and Antitrust Section where he worked to protect SC consumers by teaming with other Attorney General offices throughout the country to investigate and resolve unfair, deceptive, antitrust trade practices. Many of his cases focused on the pharmaceutical industry. Previously, Paavola also served two years as a litigation associate practicing primarily in medical device and pharmaceutical litigation, complex contract disputes, and FINRA matters.

Paavola earned a Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from the University of South Carolina School of Law where he served as Editor in Chief of South Carolina Law Review and was a member of Order of the Coif and Order of the Wig and Robe. He also served as a judicial intern to the Honorable Margaret B. Seymour and the Honorable Henry F. Floyd and clerked for John Blume of the Cornell Law School Death Penalty Project. Upon earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in financial services and planning from Baylor University, Paavola spent six years in banking and finance as an analyst and portfolio manager.
As an active member of the South Carolina Bar Association, Paavola serves as co-chair of the Young Lawyers Division Color of Justice Committee and on the Judicial Qualifications Committee. He also serves as a Content Editor for the American Bar Association and is a member of the SC Association for Justice.
