Foundation Awards $93,500 in Grants

SPARTANBURG, SC – The Mary Black Foundation announced that it recently awarded $93,500 in grants to 4 nonprofit organizations serving Spartanburg County.

  • Project HOPE Foundation, Inc. was awarded $5,000 to support the construction of a Life Skills House that will prepare youth and young adults with autism to live more independently.
  • Spartanburg Area Conservancy was awarded $5,000 to support administrative expenses related to the development of the Spartanburg County Blueways Master Plan.
  • Spartanburg County School District Six was awarded $35,000 to support its efforts to provide healthier meals to students through scratch made cooking.  The funding will provide training to cafeteria staff throughout the district.
  • Tyger River Foundation was awarded $48,500 to develop an engineering plan for Phase 1 of the Tygerberry Trail, a proposed natural trail along the Tyger River Basin.

Molly Talbot-Metz, Vice President of Programs, said, “The Foundation’s board of trustees and staff are excited to partner with these organizations to improve health and wellness for the people and communities of Spartanburg County.  These grant awards represent high quality programs, the planning of new recreational facilities throughout the county, and systemic changes that will promote healthy lifestyles.”

The Mary Black Foundation is an independent private foundation. Since 1996, the Foundation has awarded more than $43 million to support its mission of investing in the people and communities for improved health, wellness, and success in Spartanburg County.
