Fountain Inn Chorale Celebrates State Heritage with Fall Concert ‘Together in Song’

Music lovers across the Golden Strip and the greater Upstate will have two opportunities to experience the rich sounds of local choral music this October as the Fountain Inn Chorale opens its concert season with Together in Song: Music of South Carolina.

The fall production features a pair of weekend performances on Friday, October 23, from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM, and Sunday, October 25, from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM.

Designed as an inspiring journey through the traditions that shape the state’s cultural identity, Together in Song highlights a broad spectrum of South Carolina’s musical roots. Audiences can expect a curated program spanning traditional spirituals, folk songs, sacred works, Appalachian-inspired arrangements, and music connected to the Gullah Geechee heritage. Through vocal performance and community engagement, the concert aims to celebrate the shared stories that define the region’s artistic landscape.

A Community-Driven Musical Home

Established in 2009 as a civic initiative, the Fountain Inn Chorale has since evolved into an independent, 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts organization. Today, the all-volunteer, audition-based ensemble brings together roughly 50 vocalists from across Upstate communities who rehearse approximately 40 weeks each year.

Under the leadership of Artistic Director Donald W. Duncan, the chorale maintains an active five-concert annual schedule. Each season includes two fall performances, two holiday concerts, and a spring showcase, performing repertoire ranging from classical masterworks and Broadway arrangements to regional contemporary selections.

As a self-funded nonprofit, the ensemble relies on member dues, local grants, ticket sales, and community donor contributions to sustain its seasonal productions, professional accompaniments, and regional outreach efforts.
