Fountain Inn Fire Officials Bring Home Advanced Tactics from International Conference

May 11, 2026

Leadership and personnel from the Fountain Inn Fire Department have returned from a week of intensive training at the FDIC International Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana. The event is recognized as one of the largest and most comprehensive fire service conferences in the world.

Representing the department were Chief Russell Alexander, Battalion Chief Michael Knotts, Firefighter Russ Beam, and Captain Ben Roberts. The group spent the week engaged in a rigorous schedule of educational sessions and hands-on learning opportunities designed to keep local departments at the forefront of modern fire suppression and rescue tactics.

Professional Development and Networking

The conference provided the Fountain Inn team with direct access to fire service professionals from across the country. These interactions allow smaller departments to share regional insights and learn from the experiences of large-scale metropolitan agencies.

In addition to classroom instruction, the team participated in practical training exercises. Beyond the technical sessions, the Fountain Inn members had the chance to meet with high-profile figures in the fire service community, including Jason Patton and Firefighter Fenton from Fire Dept. Coffee, who are well-known for their advocacy and community engagement within the profession.

Strengthening Local Service

The department emphasized that these investments in professional development have a direct impact on the safety of the local community. By sending leadership and frontline staff to international training events, the department ensures that the latest life-saving techniques and equipment standards are being implemented back home in Fountain Inn.

“We are proud of our department members for continuing to invest in professional development,” the department stated in a summary of the trip. The knowledge gained in Indianapolis is expected to be integrated into upcoming internal training rotations for the rest of the Fountain Inn crew.

The Fountain Inn Fire Department continues to prioritize these educational opportunities to ensure that their response capabilities remain robust as the community continues to grow.
