Fountain Inn Police to Become First in Greenville County to Earn SAFE Designation

April 29, 2026

The Fountain Inn Police Department is set to make history next month as the first law enforcement agency in Greenville County to receive the prestigious SAFE Designation. The recognition honors the department’s commitment to providing trauma-informed, survivor-centered care for victims of sexual assault.

A formal presentation of the designation will take place during the Fountain Inn City Council meeting on May 14, 2026, at 6:00 PM at the Fountain Inn Municipal Court.

A New Standard for Victim Support

The SAFE (Sexual Assault Forensic Excellence) Designation is a specialized credential developed through a collaborative partnership between several high-level state organizations, including:

  • The South Carolina Victim Assistance Network (SCVAN)

  • The South Carolina Attorney General’s Office

  • The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED)

  • The South Carolina Hospital Association

To obtain this status, the Fountain Inn Police Department underwent rigorous training and policy evaluations to ensure that their response to sexual assault cases prioritizes the well-being and dignity of survivors while maintaining investigative integrity.

Leading the Region

By becoming the first agency in the county to achieve this milestone, Fountain Inn is setting a new benchmark for municipal policing in the Upstate. Officials noted that the designation reflects a “strong dedication to going above and beyond” to ensure that members of the community receive the highest possible level of support during their most vulnerable moments.

“This recognition reflects [the department’s] ongoing commitment to providing trauma-informed, survivor-centered care,” the press release stated. “Their efforts demonstrate a strong dedication to ensuring victims in their community receive the best possible support and response.”

The public and members of the media are invited to attend the presentation on Wall Street to witness the official handover of the designation. For those seeking more information on the SAFE program or the upcoming ceremony, the department has designated Amanda White, BSN, RN, SANE-A, as the primary point of contact.
