Four members join Midlands Technical College Foundation Board

COLUMBIA, SC – Four new community leaders are bringing their extensive talent and experience to the Midlands Technical College Foundation Board. Joining the 21 current board members are:
- Judge Tomothy C. Edmond, Magistrate Court Judge for Richland County. Judge Edmond’s career includes time with the South Carolina House of Representatives, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED). He is a 2004 graduate of Midlands Technical College.
- James L. Braun, Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of AVANTech Inc. The company provides comprehensive industrial water treatment solutions in industrial, commercial, power, and nuclear power applications. AVANTech is a wonderful partner with MTC and is continually hoping to recruit new graduates whenever possible.
- Robert Brinkerhoff, System Vice President of Human Resources for Palmetto Health. Brinkerhoff also serves as the Vice President for the South Carolina Health Care Human Resources Association. Palmetto Health makes an impact through their donations to MTC as well as by being one of the providers of clinical experience for MTC health care students, many of whom are then employed by the hospital.
- Willis Langley, III, Owner/Operator of two McDonald’s franchises located in West Columbia and Lexington. Langley brings a depth of entrepreneurial and community service experience to MTC. Along with his service to the Foundation Board, he currently serves as a board member of the Columbia Urban League and also served on the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
“It is important for the MTC Foundation to have a board that provides leadership, oversight, and direct assistance for the implementation of the Foundation’s mission,” said Jack Hoekstra, MTC’s Associate Vice President for Philanthropy. “We are building meaningful relationships with donors, leading to gifts that support our college as we prepare students for success.”
The Foundation Board of Trustees is composed of up to 25 diverse individuals who are prominent in our community and have expertise ranging from business and industry leadership to professional and civic affiliations. Hoekstra said the best board is comprised of leaders with different skills and backgrounds.
“Your board should be reflective of the community you serve. The students at Midlands Technical College don’t look, talk or dress the same, but they share the common goal of bettering themselves for a brighter future. We are committed to reflecting that same diversity on our Foundation Board,” said Hoekstra.
