Four Spartanburg-Based Attorneys Selected to “South Carolina Super Lawyers” List for 2011

SPARTANBURG, SC – March 30, 2011 – Ford & Harrison LLP, a national labor and employment law firm, is pleased to announce that four Spartanburg-based attorneys have been named to Law & Politics’ 2011 list of “South Carolina Super Lawyers.”
The following attorneys were recognized: Wade E. Ballard, S. Clay Keim, Thomas H. Keim, Jr. and Penny C. Wofford.
Wade Ballard represents management in labor and employment matters in the courts, in arbitration, and before government agencies, including the EEOC, the U.S. Department of Labor, the North and South Carolina Departments of Labor, the South Carolina Human Affairs Commission, and other agencies at the federal, state and local level. He counsels businesses on the entire range of workplace issues and frequently conducts management training and continuing legal education on employment law, wage and hour law, discrimination, harassment, and other issues of concern to employers and the bar. He has worked extensively with employers in many industries, including the healthcare, automotive, telecommunications, hospitality, and aerospace industries. Ballard received his J.D. from Duke University School of Law in 1982.
Clay Keim represents employers in a wide-range of matters involving breach of contract, including breach of non-compete, non-solicitation, and non-disclosure covenants, misappropriation of trade secrets, unfair competition, and employment discrimination and harassment. He also has extensive experience in labor law matters, including opposing union organizing campaigns, and litigating unfair labor practice charges. Clay counsels businesses on the entire range of workplace issues and frequently conducts management training on employment law, labor law, and other issues of concern to employers. Keim received his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1995.
Tom Keim has practiced exclusively in the areas of management labor and employment law since 1987. He represents clients in federal and state courts in many jurisdictions throughout the United States. His experience ranges from the representation of clients in employment litigation to union campaigns, strikes, and other employment-related matters. He also advises clients on the full spectrum of workplace issues. He is a South Carolina Supreme Court Certified Specialist in Employment and Labor Law. Keim received his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1987.
Penny Wofford is a South Carolina Supreme Court Certified Specialist in Employment and Labor Law. She concentrates her practice in the area of employment litigation and employee benefits. She advises and defends employers, employer-sponsored plans, and plan fiduciaries against all types of claims under ERISA and employment discrimination laws. Penny not only provides proactive counseling and legal advice to employers and management regarding human resources issues but also assists employers with the design, drafting, and administration of welfare benefit and retirement plans. Penny is a frequent speaker on employee benefits and employee leave topics such as FMLA, HIPAA and COBRA compliance and employer responsibilities for employee benefit plans. Wofford received her J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1998.
Attorneys are selected for this honor through a statewide nomination process, peer review by practice area and independent research on candidates. The rigorous process is designed to identify lawyers who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. Only five percent of attorneys in the state of South Carolina are selected for inclusion in “Super Lawyers.”
