From Main Stage to Silver Screen—Footlight Players Theatre Goes To The Movies
September 8, 2010CHARLESTON, SC – On Friday, September 17 at 7 p.m., Footlight Players Theatre turns its spotlight from the big stage to the big screen with a screening of Cold Soldiers, an action film shot entirely in the Lowcountry by Charleston writer and director Nick Smith.
The film involved more than 300 regional actors, filmmakers and support workers and since it was shot entirely in the Lowcountry, Patriot’s Point, the Old Navy Yard and the Cigar Factory all share screen time.
Cold Soldiers has been described as a meld of The Dirty Dozen and The Bourne Identity and includes elaborate action sequences, car chases and complex stunt work. The film has a running time of 100 minutes.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door and is appropriate for ages 17+. All proceeds will benefit The Footlight Players Theatre and the Cold Soldiers Film Festival submission fund. The September 17th screening will be the last local public screening for 2010.
Cold Soldiers stars Trevor Erickson, who also produced and coordinated the stunts and fight sequences. The cast includes Jimmy Hager, Danny Jones, Sandra VanNatta and Charlie Thiel. The crew includes Steve Zimmerman, Mark Gorman and Arlene Lagos.
The film’s plot is set at The Kershaw Institute, where highly trained spies and soldiers recover from mental breakdowns on the battlefield. Kershaw is a place of recovery, with respected psychologist John Dance at the helm. But this place of healing is in for a surprise of battlefield proportions.
Surrounded by combat-ready patients that could turn on him at any moment, Dance is shocked when he learns that his patents have begun targeting the very group that funds their healing. Members of the hospital’s review board are dying and it’s up to Dance to find out why—and he’d better act quickly. With his own wife, Rebecca, as a key member of the very board in charge of the Institute’s future, Dance discover that the stakes are higher than ever and the clock is ticking away.
In his quest for the truth, Dr. John Dance quickly realizes that no one is what they seem and the decisions he makes will either save or destroy the lives of everyone connected to the Institute.
