From Priscilla Presley to Soul Asylum: Harbison Theatre brings big names to an intimate stage

This year, audiences can experience them all without leaving the Midlands.
Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College is bringing an eclectic lineup of nationally recognized performers, beloved entertainers, acclaimed musicians and distinctly South Carolina talent to its intimate stage, continuing the theatre’s role as one of the region’s most unexpected cultural destinations.
Located on Midlands Technical College’s Harbison Campus, the theatre offers something increasingly rare in live entertainment: the opportunity to experience major talent in a setting where nearly every seat feels close to the stage.

The season spans comedy, music, theatre, family entertainment, thought-provoking conversations and special events, with programming designed to give Midlands audiences more reasons to make a night of it close to home.
Among the season’s highlights are Priscilla Presley, sharing stories from a life spent at the center of American pop culture; renowned author, professor and animal behavior expert Temple Grandin; alternative rock band Soul Asylum; comedian and actor Donnell Rawlings; and an evening with members of the cast of HBO’s iconic series The Sopranos.
For audiences looking for spectacle, The Peking Acrobats will bring their internationally celebrated acrobatics to the Midlands, while Invincible: A Glorious Tribute to Michael Jackson celebrates the music and performances of one of pop music’s most influential entertainers.
Music plays a major role throughout the season, from The Doo Wop Project and Patrick Davis: Songs and Stories to performances from Robert Gardiner and the SC Jazz Masterworks, the Lake Murray Symphony Orchestra, Motown Revue with Terence Young and a special performance with the South Carolina Philharmonic celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.
The season also makes room for stories and performers with deep ties to the community. Local and regional productions, student showcases, dance, jazz, gospel and holiday programming give audiences the opportunity to discover talent from their own backyard alongside nationally touring acts.
That combination is at the heart of Harbison Theatre’s season: a nationally recognized name one night, an emerging Midlands performer the next, and an intimate venue connecting audiences to both.
The result is a season that is difficult to define by any single genre and intentionally so.
Whether audiences come to hear a rock band they grew up with, see a television icon in person, introduce their children to live theatre, discover a local artist or simply try something they have never experienced before, Harbison Theatre is giving the Midlands a reason to take another look at what is happening on its stage.
