April 24, 2013

COLUMBIA, SC – April 24, 2013 – Mary D. LaFave, an associate with Gaffney Lewis & Edwards, has been designated a 2013 South Carolina Super Lawyers Rising Star for her work in the practice area personal injury defense.

Super Lawyers is a nationally recognized rating service of outstanding attorneys across more than 70 practice areas. Rising Stars are up-and-coming attorneys who are younger than 40 or who have practiced for less than 10 years.

To earn Rising Star status, LaFave’s credentials were evaluated on 12 indicators of peer opinion and professional achievement. Other attorneys in her practice area assessed her performance, and Super Lawyers staff also conducts independent research of each candidate.

The annual Super Lawyers Magazine, which is published in May, reaches more than 13 million readers. A Super Lawyers edition of Columbia Living magazine targets more than 100,000 readers in the Palmetto State.

In addition to personal injury defense, LaFave’s practice areas include premises liability defense, general liability and criminal defense.

A former Richland County public defender, LaFave is a graduate of Transylvania University in her native Lexington, Ky., and the Michigan State University School of Law. She practices in the firm’s Columbia office.
