Gates Foundation Group Tabs Nexsen Pruet Attorney

Tommy Preston to Lead Millennium Scholars Alumni Association
 
COLUMBIA, SC – April 30, 2012 – Nexsen Pruet attorney Tommy Preston is the new President-Elect of the Gates Millennium Scholars Alumni Association.  The association is comprised of graduates who were awarded collegescholarships paid for by The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
 
Preston, who was the group’s first-ever Vice President, was inducted asPresident-elect at the organization’s annual meeting this year inOrlando.  He will become president of the national association in 2013.

Through a grant, the Gates Foundation established the scholarshipprogram in 1999. As President of the alumni association, Preston willrepresent more than 10,000 alumni who received scholarships.  He willalso serve as the Alumni Representative on the Gates Scholars AdvisoryBoard.
 
Preston is an associate in the firm’s Financial Services and EconomicDevelopment group, where he assists clients with legal needs relatedto Public Policy and Governmental Affairs as well as Alternative Energy.
 
He earned his B.A., cum laude, from the University of South Carolina andhis law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law.  Asan undergrad, Preston served in numerous leadership role, includingstudent body Treasurer and President.  His work there included thecreation of Cocky’s Reading Express.
