Geography Legislator of the Year Award to representative Kenny Bingham

October 26, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC – Representative Kenneth “Kenny” Bingham, South Carolina House District 89, was recently named the Geography Legislator of the Year by the South Carolina Geographic Alliance. Mr. Bingham was recognized for his commitment to quality geography education for all South Carolina K-12 students.

The Geography Legislator of the Year Award enables the South Carolina Geographic Alliance to honor those members of our Legislature who are working to support geographic literacy and to foster a well-rounded education in South Carolina students.

Dr. Jerry Mitchell, coordinator of the Geographic Alliance, said “The award recognizes an individual for their commitment to creating a geographically-literate population in South Carolina. Without support from legislators such as Kenny Bingham, our work is incomplete. Mr. Bingham understands that keeping South Carolina economically competitive, while also preserving our states resources, requires developing a student population that understands their world’s geography.”

Throughout its 26-year history, the South Carolina Geographic Alliance has worked tirelessly to educate people about the planet. Mr. Bingham shares the same commitment, working to ensure that future generations have access to geographic education that prepares them to succeed in an increasingly global world.
