Georgetown County invites resident input on Port Master Plan ahead of Oct. 22 Community Kick-Off Meeting
October 13, 2026Following the recent contract termination between Liberty Steel and River Development Equities for the former steel mill property, Georgetown County Economic Development is issuing a timely reminder to community members: your voice is vital in shaping what comes next for the Port of Georgetown.
The ongoing master planning process represents an unprecedented opportunity for local residents to help chart a fresh course for this crucial, publicly owned waterfront asset.
To launch this collaborative effort, a Community Kick-Off Meeting will take place on Thursday, October 22, at 6:00 PM at the Howard Center (1610 Hawkins Street).
This interactive session will give residents a direct role in guiding the future of the port. The meeting will begin with a general update on the overall planning process, followed by topic-focused breakout groups where attendees can dive deeper into the specific issues, opportunities, and priorities that matter most to them.
For those unable to attend in person—or for residents who wish to review materials ahead of time—comments and input can be submitted online at any time by visiting gtcountysc.gov/portmasterplan. All feedback submitted through the portal goes directly to the consulting team crafting the master plan.
Don’t miss this chance to weigh in on the economic and cultural landscape of Georgetown’s waterfront. Mark your calendar for October 22 and make sure your vision for the port is heard!
