Georgetown County to offer paper shredding and household hazardous waste collection on Nov. 7

October 22, 2026

Georgetown County residents have an opportunity to safely dispose of household hazardous materials and sensitive documents at a free collection event Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. to noon at Waccamaw Middle School, 247 Wildcat Way, Pawleys Island.

The event, sponsored by the Georgetown County Department of Public Services, accepts paint, incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs, household cleaners, non-commercial pesticides, fertilizers, and other household products labeled “warning,” “poisonous” or “toxic.” Paper documents containing staples, rubber bands or paper clips are also accepted for shredding. Space is limited, so residents should plan to arrive early. The event will close promptly at noon with no exceptions.

Several items will not be accepted, including ammunition, which should be taken to the Sheriff’s Office during normal business hours for proper disposal. Gas, propane, oil and antifreeze are not accepted at this event and should be disposed of at your local recycling center. Three-ring binders and binder clips will not be accepted with paper shredding submissions. Commercial business items will not be accepted under any circumstances.
