Georgetown County Water & Sewer District sets irrigation schedule to manage peak demand
April 28, 2026Georgetown County Water & Sewer District (GCWSD) is implementing a new irrigation schedule for its customers to manage peak water demand and ensure system reliability during periods of high use.
The measure, which aligns with state drought guidance, aims to preserve the integrity of the water distribution system and stabilize storage levels.
Scheduled Watering Days
The district has established a rotating schedule based on street addresses. Residents are asked to adhere to the following:
-
Odd-Numbered Addresses: Customers with addresses ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9 may irrigate on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
-
Even-Numbered Addresses: Customers with addresses ending in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8 may irrigate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
-
Non-Watering Day: Sunday is designated as a voluntary non-watering day for all customers to allow for system recovery.
Managing Peak Demand
In addition to specific days, GCWSD is urging customers to avoid irrigation during peak demand periods. Irrigation systems should be programmed to run during off-peak hours, specifically in the late evening or early morning.
District officials recommend avoiding water usage during the following peak windows:
-
6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
-
4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Drought Context
The current schedule is a proactive response to “Moderate Drought” conditions. Under these conditions, the state recommends reducing non-essential outdoor water use, such as excessive lawn irrigation.
District officials noted that if drought conditions worsen to “Severe” or “Exceptional” levels, additional mandatory restrictions may be implemented in coordination with state agencies.
