GHS honors Entercom Upstate’s fundraising with naming opportunity

July 27, 2016

Greenville Health System (GHS) will honor Entercom Upstate’s nine-year commitment to raising funds for GHS Children’s Hospital by renaming a Children’s Hospital family recreation area after the organization.

The newly renamed Entercom Playroom is located on the fifth floor of GHS Children’s Hospital. The naming was officially announced at a celebration for Entercom Upstate employees on Tuesday, July 26.

Entercom Upstate is one of the largest sponsors of GHS Children’s Hospital, and supports the hospital through a variety of corporate and community events, including toy drives, ticket sale donations, sponsorships, and their annual Children’s Hospital Radiothon. Radiothon alone has raised a cumulative $2,361,025 for the organization to date.

“I am grateful that GHS Children’s Hospital is recognizing Entercom Upstate with this incredible honor. Our staff, listeners and advertisers are the ones that really deserve the recognition for their efforts,” said Entercom Upstate’s Vice President & Market Manager, Steve Sinicropi.

The money Entercom Upstate raises funds many of the support services offered by GHS Children’s Hospital to make a hospital stay less scary for patients and families, including teaching dolls, distraction therapies, sleeping chairs for parents and Camp Courage scholarships for cancer patients. These services are considered part of the Dream Gap, which is the array of services not covered under a normal operating budget.

“Our relationship with Entercom makes it possible to provide services to children and families that make them feel safe and secure in what can otherwise be a scary time for them,” said William Schmidt, M.D., medical director of GHS Children’s Hospital. “We are grateful for Entercom’s continued support of our mission, and we look forward to strengthening our partnership with them.”

The 2016 Radiothon will be held Aug. 4 and 5, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The live broadcast can be heard on each of the seven Entercom stations: 106.3 WORD, ESPN Upstate, Classic Rock 101.1, 93.3 The Planet, Magic 98.9, B93.7 and 96.3 The Block.

Throughout the broadcasts, the on-air personalities will share stories and interviews with patients and families who have been served by GHS Children’s Hospital’s Bryan NICU, Roger C. Peace Rehabilitation Hospital, BI-LO Children’s Cancer Center and other programs and services. Radio listeners are encouraged to consider donating to Children’s Hospital through a call-in number or by visiting www.ghs.org/radiothon.

GHS Children’s Hospital serves all of upstate South Carolina, western North Carolina and eastern Georgia. The money raised during Radiothon impacts more than 400,000 visitors each year.
