GILBERT, SC — Gilbert High announces that James Alvin Wright has been selected to serve as head varsity girls basketball coach.
After playing basketball in high school, Wright played basketball for the University of South Carolina Salkehatchie.
He began his coaching career volunteering with the Gilbert Middle basketball team and church league basketball.
Wright became the head junior varsity girls basketball coach in 2008. His passion and knowledge of the sport helped lead the junior varsity team to six years of winning seasons. The team had a record of 92 wins and 25 losses under Wright’s leadership.
“Coach Wright has an overwhelming commitment to the players and the sport. I can’t wait to see the success he brings to the Lady Indians,” said Gilbert High Principal Ann O’Cain.
Wright earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of South Carolina.
