GHS physician named chair of Alliance for a Healthier South Carolina

GREENVILLE, SC – Dr. Bruce Snyder, a vascular surgeon with Greenville Health System, has been named chair of the Alliance for a Healthier South Carolina. The Alliance is a group of 54 organizations and partners dedicated to improving healthcare statewide along five priority areas: healthy babies, healthy children, healthy bodies, healthy minds and health equity.
Dr. Snyder has been involved in statewide healthy living initiatives for a number of years. Most recently he served as president of the South Carolina Medical Association (SCMA), where he led the association’s effort to combat obesity by removing sugary drinks from its facility and encouraging other healthcare organizations to do the same. He also represents the SCMA on the state’s SCale Down initiative, a collaborative effort to reduce the rate of obesity in the Palmetto State.
“Obesity is an epidemic in our state and its effects are detrimental to our society,” said Dr. Snyder. “Physicians and healthcare professionals are uniquely positioned to serve as role models for their patients and demonstrate the benefits of living a healthier lifestyle. As a physician, I am honored to serve on the Alliance for a Healthier South Carolina and continue helping agencies and organizations coordinate efforts to improve overall health and well-being across our state.”
Dr. Snyder received his medical degree from Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC, and completed residency training in general surgery at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington. He also completed a fellowship in vascular surgery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
Dr. Snyder is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also a member of the Society for Vascular Surgery, the Southern Association for Vascular Surgery, the South Carolina Vascular Surgery Society, the American College of Surgeons and the Southeastern Surgical Congress.
