Girl Scouts announces Emerald Circle Chair and kickoff celebration

April 20, 2016

GREENWOOD, SC – Girl Scouts of South Carolina – Mountains to Midlands has appointed Dr. Donna H. Foster as 2016 Chair for its Emerald Circle in Greenwood, Abbeville, McCormick and Saluda ckounties. The Emerald Circle is a philanthropic group for women who annually support the local Girl Scout Leadership Experience. The Circle is united with Circles in other counties through a common ideal: helping girls become leaders in their families, schools, churches and communities.

Donna’s rich background in education serves her well as Associate Vice President, Assessment and Compliance, with Piedmont Technical College, where she previously served as Dean, Arts and Sciences. Donna received her B.S. and M.Ed. from Clemson University, and she taught mathematics in Greenwood School District 50. She has also been an adjunct mathematics instructor at Lander University. Recognized as the 1996 SC Governor’s Professor of the Year, Donna was the first awardee in the two-year college category. Donna received her Ph.D. in Educational Administration from the University of South Carolina.

Donna is a member and past co-chair of the Women’s Leadership Council, an initiative of the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce. She and husband, Lee, are members of West Side Baptist Church, where Donna serves as church treasurer. She is also a founding member of the Emerald Circle.

As a former Girl Scout while growing up in Walhalla, SC, Donna enthusiastically credits her Girl Scout experiences in the development of her early leadership skills. “Girl Scouts provide hundreds of hours of community service helping others each year, while they themselves learn financial literacy, communication skills, values-based decision-making and healthy living habits, all while having fun together through teamwork,” Donna shares. “Girls need the opportunities Girl Scouting opens to them.”

“Through our Emerald Circle, the combined giving power of women can help make Girl Scouting available for today’s girls. All gifts support girls’ leadership development in the county in which they are given,” Donna explains. “I encourage you to become a member of our growing Emerald Circle of women empowering girls. When your invitation arrives, please join us through your generous gift to girls.”

“Interested women and current members are invited to kickoff the Emerald Circle at our celebration on Monday, May 16 from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. at the Greenwood Genetic Center Research Institute Atrium. Find out more about Girl Scouting’s impact and how you can make a positive difference in the lives of local girls through Emerald Circle,” says Donna.
