Girl Scouts Appoints Boots & Pearls Women of Distinction Chair

March 14, 2016

Girl Scouts of South Carolina – Mountains to Midlands has appointed Cecilia K. Hanna as 2016 Chair for its Boots & Pearls Women of Distinction event.  This is the fourth year of the recognition and fundraising dinner that celebrates and honors outstanding women from the Cherokee, Spartanburg, and Union areas for their professional accomplishments, service to others, and impact on their community.

For the past ten years, Hanna, a native of Spartanburg, has been employed by The Hawkins Foundation as Director of Education and Events.  The Hawkins Foundation’s mission is to support and further research and education in orthopedics.  Closely linked with the Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas, The Hawkins Foundation works to ultimately elevate patient care in orthopedics through research and education. Hanna is proud of the impact the organization has made in healthcare not only in Upstate South Carolina, but in orthopedics across the map.

Hanna is a former Board member of Girls Scouts –  Mountains to Midlands and currently serves on the Executive Committee of Women Giving for Spartanburg. Hanna is a graduate of Presbyterian College, for which she has also served on the Alumni Board of Directors.

Once a Girl Scout in Spartanburg, Hanna is committed to promoting courage, confidence and character in young girls as they grow into women leaders of our community. As the Chair for Boots & Pearls Women of Distinction, she is enthusiastically sharing the mission and message with other visionary women.  “It’s important to recognize the women leading our community and impacting lives in so many different ways.  It’s been eye-opening to uncover the oftentimes quiet but incredibly meaningful accomplishments of women in our community.  The Women of Distinction award makes those leaders and their contributions known, and that’s important as we teach, encourage, and strengthen girls.”

The Boots & Pearls Women of Distinction recognition is set for October 18, 2016 from 6:00-9:00pm at the Piedmont Club.
