Girl Scouts collecting supplies for flood-affected members

October 6, 2015

GREENVILLE, SC – The Girl Scouts of South Carolina – Mountains to Midlands Council is asking the public to help with its effort to provide relief from the devastation and hardship caused by the unprecedented rainfall and resulting flooding in the Midlands area.  A supplies collection drive has begun for the 4,700 Girl Scout members in the affected areas.

The first priority is to provide supplies to those in distress in Girl Scout family homes.  Any additional supplies that are not distributed to our Girl Scout family will be donated to the Red Cross and the National Guard.

Needed supplies are:

  • water bottles (individually packaged or gallons)
  • canned goods and packaged snacks
  • new socks, blankets, pillows, clothing
  • toiletries and wet wipes
  • baby items and toys
  • plastic containers
  • paper towels
  • any other helpful items such as travel-size deodorant, dry shampoo, brushes, combs and denture cleaners
  • gift cards to Target and Wal-Mart

Collection centers are now open at the Spartanburg and Greenville Girl Scout Service Centers.  The Spartanburg Service Center is located at 349 E. Blackstock Road and the Greenville Service Center is located at 5 Independence Pointe, Suite 120, Greenville.

States Kim Hutzell, President/CEO, “Some families have lost nearly everything they own and the prediction is that the flooding will continue to impact more families over the next couple weeks.  We want to extend a grateful thank you to our partner, Carey Moving and Storage, as they are providing a collection truck at each center.  They will also provide drivers to deliver items to the Midlands area by Thursday morning.”

The collection effort will continue as long as needed.
