Girl Scouts in the Upstate and Midlands celebrate 110 Years

March 13, 2022

For 110 years, Girl Scouts have found a way to dream big and do good. From reaching the outer limits of space to stocking their local food pantry, there is no challenge too big or need too small for a Girl Scout to tackle. Since day one, girls have found a way to create a better future for themselves, their communities, and the world.

Saturday, March 12, the 110th birthday of Girl Scouts, we will celebrate the problem solvers, go-getters, dreamers, and doers who are creating a better future for us all.

Upcountry History Museum (Greenville): Girl Scouts of South Carolina—Mountains to Midlands, siblings and parents, enjoyed discounted adult prices on March 12.  Plus, a program from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. and a 30-45-minute tour to learn about women in history, including a Girl Scout exhibit.  After the tour we’ll enjoy some 110th birthday activities.

State Museum (Columbia): A Girl Scout exhibit will be on display March 12 – April 10. Girl Scouts will receive a discount on admission.

History Museum of Travelers Rest: The museum has a Girl Scout display and is open on Saturdays and Sundays.  Admission is Free.

Newborn Baby Baskets: Dozens of Girl Scout volunteers knitted and crocheted newborn baby hats with trefoils. The hats will be delivered to babies born on March 12 throughout our council along with, a certificate for one year of Girl Scout membership upon reaching Kindergarten, Girl Scout Cookies, and other Girl Scout swag.

South Carolina Resolution: South Carolina Senator Katrina Shealy introduced and helped pass a resolution recognizing Girl Scouts 110th birthday.  It was presented to Girl Scouts at the state house this week.

Golden Strip Engineering Fest: Girl Scouts of Service Unit 639 is partnering with local women engineers to explore engineering in celebration of the 110th birthday. Girl Scouts from Simpsonville and Fountain Inn will rotate through stations learning the engineering design process with activities in electrical, mechanical, biomedical, civil, and aerodynamics disciplines. Engineering Fest provides Girl Scouts from kindergarten through high school the opportunity to explore their strengths and rise to meet new challenge in the 2022 DiscoverE World Engineering Day for sustainable development.
