Girl Scouts of South Carolina celebrate 100 years of changing the world

October 26, 2016

Girl Scouts of South Carolina-Mountains to Midlands and Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina are honoring the amazing work that Girl Scouts have done for the last century

Please join us November 4, 2016 from 7:00pm-10:00pm at the State Museum in Columbia to celebrate the millions of Girl Scouts who have created, developed and executed “Take Action” projects that have positively impacted their communities and the world, earning Girl Scouts’ highest award.

The event is open to anyone 14 years and older. Tickets are being offered to registered Girl Scouts for $10.00, registered adults for $20.00, and to the general public for $30.00 each. This event is an opportunity for members of the Girl Scouts Community, Girl Scouts alumnae, and community members to network with recipients of our highest award while celebrating the powerful impact the Gold Award has globally. Guests will be treated to music, interactive food stations including a s’mores bar, a silent auction featuring items from across the state, and optional screenings of Girl Scout created mini Gold Award documentaries.

To purchase tickets go to gssc-mm.org or call 1-800- 849-GIRL. We hope our media friends will join us for this historical celebration. Please contact Karen Kelly, Director of Marketing and Communications if you would like attend.

In March 2016 the SC Legislature passed a resolution honoring and congratulating Girl Scouts on the Centennial anniversary of the highest award a Girl Scout can earn. We’ve been celebrating these incredible accomplishments all year and hope you will join us in November to recognize the contributions by Girl Scouts.

About the Girl Scout Gold Award

Since 1916, Girl Scouts have been making meaningful, sustainable change in their communities and around the world. The Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor a Girl Scout can earn, acknowledges the power behind each recipient’s dedication to not only empowering and bettering herself, but also to making the world a better place for others. These young women are courageous leaders and visionary change makers. They are our future, and it looks bright!

For more than 100 years, Girl Scouting has helped girls develop positive values and become active, responsible leaders in their communities. With emphasis on personal growth and leadership development through service to others, Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Girl Scouts of South Carolina-Mountains to Midlands serves approximately 11,450 girls, grades K5-12, and 4,700 adults in 22 counties of central and western South Carolina, including Abbeville, Aiken, Anderson, Cherokee, Chester, Edgefield, Fairfield, Greenville, Greenwood, Kershaw, Lancaster, Laurens, Lexington, McCormick, Newberry, Oconee, Pickens, Richland, Saluda, Spartanburg, Sumter, and Union.
