Golden Strip Career Center students will take the stage at Euphoria’s Healthy Lunchtime Throwdown
September 2, 2026The heat is officially turning up in the kitchen for three talented young culinary students from Golden Strip Career Center, who have been selected to showcase their culinary chops on one of the Upstate’s biggest gastronomic stages: the annual Euphoria food and wine festival.
Greenville County Schools’ Food and Nutrition Services announced that three aspiring student chefs from the center will compete in this year’s highly anticipated Healthy Lunchtime Throwdown, an annual live cooking challenge held during Euphoria Greenville.
From the Classroom to Center Stage
Dressed in crisp chef whites and standing behind a vibrant spread of original dishes—ranging from noodle bowls and loaded wraps to flatbreads topped with crisp, colorful slaw—the student chefs are already demonstrating the poise, technique, and creativity fostered within the district’s career and technical education programs.
The Healthy Lunchtime Throwdown provides high school culinary students with an extraordinary real-world opportunity: stepping onto a live festival stage to prepare nutritious, original recipes under the clock. In past throwdowns, student competitors have been paired alongside guest culinary leaders and Michelin-starred chefs visiting Greenville for Euphoria, receiving hands-on mentorship while performing under pressure.
Healthy Menus with Cafeteria Impact
The throwdown is far more than an exhibition; it carries high stakes for Greenville County cafeterias. Criteria for the competition focus on:
-
Nutritional Balance: Developing flavorful, wholesome meals that meet district wellness guidelines.
-
Creativity & Flavor: Bringing inventive, appealing flavors to life using fresh ingredients.
-
School-Wide Scalability: Creating dishes that can feasibly be scaled up to feed hundreds of students across district school cafeterias.
Traditionally, the winning student recipe earns a coveted spot on the official Greenville County Schools lunch menu rotation for the school year, giving tens of thousands of peers across the county the chance to taste their classmate’s award-winning creation.
Cheering on Local Talent
Greenville County Schools Nutrition Services will be highlighting each of the three Golden Strip student competitors across their social media channels in the coming days, introducing the young chefs, their signature recipes, and their inspirations behind the apron.
Euphoria, which draws culinary talent, music, and food enthusiasts from across the nation to downtown Greenville every September, continues its strong partnership with local schools to inspire the next generation of culinary and hospitality leaders.
