Golden Strip roads, bridges and sidewalks to be repaired with yes vote

August 20, 2014

SIMPSONVILLE, SC –  The Golden Strip area has 40 infrastructure projects on The November Roads Referendum list.

Those are 40 projects that will be completed in the next eight years if voters pass the referendum this November, said Bob Knight, chairman of Citizens for a Better Greenville, an ad hoc group of area residents who support better roads.

“This vote is a historic opportunity for our county,” Knight said.

Citizens for a Better Greenville was in Simpsonville Wednesday to highlight one of the roads on the project list — three lane widening on West Georgia Road from Neely Ferry Road to East Standing Springs Road.

The Citizens for a Better Greenville is holding a series of walking tours to better help voters understand the need for improved roads in Greenville County. A major part of Wednesday’s discussion was on safety.

South Carolina has the most dangerous secondary roads in the nation with 3.99 deaths per 100 million miles of vehicle travel, Knight said. The state with the next highest average is Florida with 3.35.

In addition, unsafe roads are the second leading cause of traffic fatalities in South Carolina, he said.
