September 28, 2011

GREENVILLE, SC – September 28, 2011 – Michael Allen, Architecture Project Manager at Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood, has been named to the 2011 class of Greenville First’s Best & Brightest 35 and Under and was honored at an awards ceremony on September 27 at the Greenville Little Theatre.

Best & Brightest 35 and Under, a program of Greenville Business Magazine currently in its 18th year, was created to honor Greenville’s young leaders for their professional and community contributions. 35 honorees were selected based on professional achievements, community contributions and educational background.

A four-year, full-scholarship letter winner playing defensive back at Clemson, Michael Allen has successfully managed careers in football and architecture. After playing semi-professional football in the NAFL and Arena Football for the Grand Rapids Rampage and the Greenville Rhinos, he put his degree in architecture to work in design, project management, construction administration, and business development. He has worked on projects such as the South Carolina Technology and Aviation Center Executive Office renovation, the Tri-County Technical College master plan for their new Easley Campus, and the Duke Energy Innovation Center on Clemson’s campus.

Michael, along with fellow former Clemson football player and 2010 Best & Brightest honoree Kevin Laird, has built the SC office of Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood from the ground up, realizing success in just four years. A 2010 Leadership South Carolina graduate and current board member, he is also a board member for the Greenville Technical College Foundation. He is a member of the United Way of Greenville’s After School Strategic Plan steering committee, the YWCA development committee, and is active with the Greenville and SC chapters of the American Institute of Architects. In addition, he and his wife, Delia, founded a not-for-profit mentoring organization called Hope for Tomorrow.
