Goose Creek High students cue the awards at Palmetto Dramatic Association and SC Thespians Festival

Goose Creek High School (GCHS)students participated in the Palmetto Dramatic Association and South Carolina Thespians Festival, and proved to be stand-outs in various categories.

Hosted by Dorman High School in Spartanburg, the festival was Friday, February 19, through Sunday, February 21.

Sa’id Kelly received a Superior in Solo Musical Performance, earning him the right to compete in the national competition in Nebraska this summer. Kelly also received an Honorable Mention in the Playwriting category. Patrick Burnett, Sara Goodman and Daz’cha Johnson were selected for the Individual Event Showcase for their work in the Scene Performance category. Laila Auld received an Honorable Mention, Mae Chinnes received an Excellent, and KaDeya Laribo received a Superior for their performances in “Including Shooter.”

In the One Act Play Competition, GCHS students received an overall rating of Excellent for their production of “Including Shooter.”

Two students received scholarships for their outstanding work. Laila Auld received the South Carolina Thespian Scholarship worth $500, and Sa’id Kelly received the Blair Beasley Award of Excellence worth $750.
