Gov. Nikki Haley Announces Next Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services

January 10, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC – Governor Nikki Haley today announced Jerry Adger as the next director of the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services. Adger has served in South Carolina state government for over 30 years – most recently as the Inspector General for the Department of Corrections.

“As we were moving forward in finding the next director at PPP, we wanted to find a leader that was going to focus on the customer service at the agency,” said Gov. Nikki Haley. “What we found is that Jerry Adger is exactly the person we need. What is interesting about Jerry’s career is that wherever he has gone, he has created a culture change. He goes in and finds out why things have happened in order to find out how to improve, and that’s exactly what we need at PPP.”

Prior to joining the Department of Corrections in 2011, Adger served as the deputy director for rehabilitative services at the Department of Juvenile Justice and in numerous roles at the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division over a 23 year period of time.

“I have been in state government for over 30 years, and in those 30 years, I have worked with SLED, DJJ and the Department of Corrections. In every one of those agencies, we improved on our law enforcement needs,” said Jerry Adger. “What I would like to do as I move forward as the director of the Department of Probation, Pardon and Parole Services is use that experience and sit down with probation officers and police officers to hear their needs and, as their director, make sure that they are being supported and getting the resources they need to get the job done.”

“I look forward to working with Mr. Adger as the incoming director of South Carolina’s Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon services,” said Senator Mike Fair, Chairman of the S.C. Senate Corrections and Penology Committee. “His career in justice and law enforcement spans decades and I look forward to working with him on the day to day challenges of PPP while continuing to look for more efficiencies and opportunities to partner with the Department of Corrections.”

“We, as a SLED family, are proud to see one of our own reach this pinnacle in his career,” SLED Chief Mark Keel said. “I’ve known Jerry for 35 years – we’ve been friends and we have been colleagues. I know his work ethic, and I know him as a person for his integrity and his honesty. I think he will be a great asset as he takes PPP forward.”

“Mr. Adger is a seamless fit for the Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services and I look forward to partnering with him in his new role to ensure successful re-entry into the workforce for former offenders and greater safety for the State of South Carolina,” said Department of Corrections Director, Bryan Stirling.

Adger, 60, is a resident of Richland County and is married with two children.
