Donation To Go Towards Purchasing 2,000 Carbon Monoxide Alarms For Midlands Families

COLUMBIA, SC – Governor Nikki Haley was joined by executives from Firehouse Subs of America and members of the Carbon Monoxide Safety Consortium of Greater Columbia to celebrate a donation totaling $50,000 to Jeannie and Amber Williams of the Jeffrey Lee Williams Foundation.

“430 people die and 20,000 people go to the hospital because of Carbon Monoxide poisoning every year, but the whole point of what we’re doing today is that they don’t have to because every bit of this is preventable,” said Gov. Nikki Haley. “So I say to all of the moms and dads out there, ‘are you protecting your family?’ We’re here to raise awareness, because it costs less than $25 to protect your family from this thing that so few people actually know about.”

The Jeffrey Lee Williams Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Rock Hill, S.C., and its mission is to increase awareness of the dangers of carbon monoxide. The original donation of $29,743 was donated by the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation and the additional $20,257 was donated by Robin and Chris Sorensen, Co-Founders of Firehouse Subs of America.

The combined $50,000 will go towards purchasing and distributing 2,000 carbon monoxide alarms to homes throughout the Midlands of South Carolina that don’t currently have one.
