COLUMBIA, SC – February 6, 2012 – The South Carolina State Fair, anindependent non-profit organization, is now taking applications fortheir 2012 Ride of Your Life Scholarship Program.

In 2012 the S.C. State fair will continue to award $300,000 inscholarships to 50 students from across the state.  Students willreceive $6,000 each, which will be distributed at $1,500 increments forup to four years.

“The fair worked hard to establish strong relationships with ourcommunity and its leaders this past year and we saw the payoff duringthe run of the 2011 fair,” said South Carolina State Fair GeneralManager Gary Goodman.  “We are elated to continue this tradition ofgiving back to the community by awarding these scholarships to deservingstudents in our state.”

The SC State Fair has provided opportunities to South Carolina highschool students for 15 years.  What started with 10 students in 1997 hasgrown into one of the largest independently funded scholarship programsin the state, all made possible through admissions, ride tickets andfood sales during the 12 days of the fair.

“It is humbling to be part of an organization that will support 200 ofour state’s best students every year,” said Goodman.  “In some cases, the State Fair Scholarship has helped to break a cycle of povertyallowing some students to be the first in their families to attendcollege.”
