Grammy-Award winning group Take 6 to perform at Richland One Hall of Fame Induction Gala

The Richland One Hall of Fame was established in 2004 to recognize graduates of Richland One schools and other persons throughout the district’s history who have made significant contributions to Richland One, their communities, their professions and society as a whole.
On Saturday, February 2, the district will honor the newest members of the Richland One Hall of Fame and celebrate the Hall of Fame’s 15th anniversary. The 2019 Richland One Hall of Fame Induction Gala will be held at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, with a red carpet reception kicking off the festivities at 5 p.m., and the program beginning at 6 p.m.
Ten-time Grammy Award-winning vocal group Take 6 will perform live in concert at the gala. Richland One is excited to welcome back home Take 6 member Khristian Dentley who attended Richland One schools until 11th grade, when his family moved to Atlanta.
WIS News 10 anchor Judi Gatson will be the emcee for the evening. Other musical entertainment will include Saxophonist Dante Lewis’ Band. Attire for the gala is black-tie optional. Complimentary valet parking and coat check will be provided.
Gala tickets are $75 each ($125 per couple) for the general public. Reserved tables and sponsorship opportunities also are available. Tickets may be purchased online via the district’s website (www.richlandone.org) or from the Richland One Office of Communications, which is located on the second floor of the Stevenson Administration Building at 1616 Richland Street. Any proceeds from the gala will benefit the district’s Academic All-Stars and Classroom Innovation Teacher Grants programs.
Induction into the Hall of Fame is the highest honor bestowed upon individuals by the Richland One Board of School Commissioners. Eighty-one men and women have been inducted since the Hall of Fame was established.
The four members of the 2018 Richland One Hall of Fame induction class are:
- Vince Ford, a graduate of A.C. Flora High School and chief community health services officer for Prisma Health who served on the Richland One Board of School Commissioners for 24 years and advocated for several key district policies, programs and initiatives, including the board’s passage of the landmark Healthy and Nutritious School Environment policy which removed soft drinks and unhealthy snacks from school vending machines accessible by students;
- Freddie E. Grace, Jr., who was Richland One’s lead orchestra teacher and an assistant high school band director and was instrumental in starting the district’s string program, later creating what is now known as the Richland One Honors Orchestra – Mr. Grace passed away in 2009;
- Jim Hockman, a retired Richland One teacher and administrator who helped introduce Richland One teachers to the use of technology as coordinator of the #1 Teacher Center and later established the district’s instructional technology program; and
- Reverend Dr. Solomon Jackson, Jr., a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School whose foundation has awarded $1 million in scholarships to Richland One students and funded the restoration of the historic Booker T. Washington High School auditorium.
