Grand Opening at Riverland Hills Baptist Church

September 1, 2021

LS3P congratulates Riverland Hills Baptist Church on their grand opening dedication ceremony that occurred on Sunday, August 29, 2021. As a returning client, Riverland Hills brought in LS3P to design a much-needed modern worship center. Over the past several years, their modern worship services were being held within the gym, which required intense set up and tear down every week and a large team of volunteers. LS3P designed a new 1,200 seat modern worship center that includes a large stage, tiered seating, a sound booth, and additional classroom/meeting spaces. The new center is connected to the main building through an existing courtyard that is now enclosed and provides a gathering space which includes welcome areas and a new coffee bar. While the original impetus for the project was the new worship space, everyone involved in the design came to realize how critical the new lobby/gathering space would be to the life of the church. It provides a clear and central entry point and is a hub connecting the various program areas of the building.

LS3P’s Firmwide Faith Sector Leader, Architect, and Associate Principal, J. Spencer Dixon, AIA, LEED AP BD+C led the design team for the new worship center. “Our favorite service is always the first service in a new worship space. It is so exciting to see the spaces we design being used by the church,” says Dixon.

Several members of the LS3P team attended the dedication service in support of the church and their new facility, among them was Project Architect, Marissa DiLoreto, AIA, who was touched by the words of Pastor Steve Herbert when he said, “the church is the people, not the building; but the building can be a great tool for the church to use.” DiLoreto believes that those words “mirrors our guiding principle throughout the entire project…We always want to design a space that fits the needs of the church and becomes a wonderful tool for them to use to grow, teach, and reach others.”
