Green Valley shines on The Woodlands at Furman Challenge

February 13, 2014

GREENVILLE, SC – February 14, 2014 – The Green Valley Road Race placed a bigger emphasis on The Woodlands at Furman Challenge in 2014 than ever before last weekend.

Not only did 13 seniors partake in the 10 mile and 8K courses, but The Woodlands at Furman served as a key landmark on the race routes. All runners started their races out of the Furman campus, ran along Roe Ford Road, around the bulk of the 22-acres Woodlands campus and then split their courses just after the main entrance.

Overall, Bill Beckwith of Central was the men’s points leader followed by David Spark and Leonard Kupersmith. Anne Brooks of Salem led the women followed by Octavia Childress.

The Woodland at Furman Challenge 2014 was started in 2011 in conjunction with the Greenville Track Club as a way to promote physical fitness amongst Upstate residents age 65 and older. Points are awarded using a formula that takes in both race finish as well as the age of the competitor.

The Woodlands is sponsoring the Challenge because of its commitment to healthy senior living in the Upstate. It is a Life Care community that added Masterpiece Living, which assists visionary communities who are already leading the industry with their wellness commitment, to become places where residents and staff alike seek to better themselves.
